Gardening trends Europe – Trendwatcher Aafje Nijman exploring emerging trends

February 3, 2021

Speaking at the Grow 21 festival, Aafje Nijman, Trend Watcher at Bureau Nijman + van Haaster, will explore emerging trends in gardening. Her insights – on what people are planting, the issue of biodiversity in gardens, and the important role of public gardens – will illuminate this evergreen subject.

The key focus of day 2 of the Grow21 virtual festival will be on consumers. Consumer needs and behaviour are changing more rapidly than ever. What impact will Covid-19 have on consumers’ behaviour? What kind of gardening trends will emerge in the near future? How can gardening support us all in the ‘new normal’? And how will shoppers behave in physical and virtual shops in a post-pandemic world?

All over Europe, gardening has been an important hobby during the pandemic. People have spent more time in their gardens, improving their outdoor spaces and finding a new fulfilment in growing flowers, plants and trees. For some, gardening is just a relaxing hobby. Many others have started to grow some of their own food.

In this presentation, Aafje Nijman, Trend Watcher at Bureau Nijman + van Haaster, will explore the emerging trends in gardening. From what people are planting, to the issue of biodiversity in gardens, and the important role of public gardens, Aafje’s insights will illuminate this evergreen subject.

As a trend watcher, collection strategist, lecturer and public speaker, Aafje specialises in consumer products in and around the house. Based on her trend-analysis, she develops new concepts for national and international design chains, helping major players in the flower and plant sector to make their brand strategies visible. Aafje is co-founder of Bureau Nijman + van Haaster, which develops an annual trend vision combining analysis of the zeitgeist and product innovation.
