Creating positive impact through fit-for-purpose solutions
Our approach
Our aim is to develop new growing media that combine optimal growth performance and lifespan while reducing environmental impact over time. One way we do this is by gradually increasing the share of renewable and circular raw materials in our product portfolio, such as wood fibre, reed canary grass and Circulera®, a hygienised growing medium made from reused substrate materials from the professional horticultural sector.
Our Impact
In the Netherlands, we support the Environmental Impact Covenant for Potting Soil and Substrates (Convenant Milieu-impact Potgrond en Substraten)- which drives the sector toward more renewable raw materials and helps safeguard responsibly produced peat. For the consumer market, the goal is to have 85% renewable raw materials in potting soils on average by 2030.
Sustainability goes beyond raw materials. We’re also improving the efficiency of our production processes and increasing the share of recycled materials in our packaging where possible.
At the same time, we recognise the value that gardening and green spaces can bring to people. Our products help consumers create thriving gardens, balconies and outdoor spaces, supporting the joy of gardening and a greener living environment.
Our Operations
1. Production footprint
- We take a full life-cycle approach: from the source of our raw materials, through transport, to what happens after use. This is measured using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) calculator developed by Growing Media Europe, which helps us set clear targets, identify areas for improvement, and spot even small changes that can make a big difference.
- We test our growing media solutions before they reach customers, to ensure safe use and prevent crop loss.
2. Packaging
- Our potting soil bags contain between 30% and 80% recycled plastic, depending on packaging type, market and customer requirements. All our packaging, including stretch hood film, complies with current PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) requirements.
3. Responsible sourcing & Raw Materials
- We ensure responsible sourcing through independent certification. We are committed to responsible peat sourcing through the RPP certification system, while our bark and wood chips are PEFC-certified.
- Our suppliers are required to comply with the Neova Supplier Code of Conduct.
- 100% of our growing media can at least be composted and in many cases reused after hygienisation and/or enrichment.
- We’re transparent about the (circular) raw materials we use including their benefits and environmental trade-offs.

Innovation, tested and proven
Our growing media solution are tested before they reach the consumer — through two in-house laboratories in the Netherlands (De Lier and Venlo), phytotron growth trials, and daily quality control.
Each year, we evaluate new raw materials and high-value additives, selecting only those that meet our performance and quality standards. We also collaborate with partners, such as Wageningen University & Research on the development of future growing media solutions.
