Since 2022, reed canary grass has been under thorough investigation in Kekkilä-BVB’s research laboratory. From the very beginning, our Development Manager, Lisa Zamparo, has played a key role in exploring its potential as a growing media material.
Our customers have also been successfully testing growing media containing reed canary grass in both Finland and the Netherlands. One of them is Ansari, a Finnish ornamental plant grower and part of the Schetelig Oy.

Ansari’s Production Manager, Taina Suni, successfully growing chrysanthemums in growing media enriched with reed canary grass.
Now, after four years of R&D and successful trials, reed canary grass has become one of our key innovations in increasing the share of circular raw materials in our growing media. The reed canary grass we use is cultivated in Finland by Neova on former peat production areas.
