Greener urban environment through circular economy

Meadows and nutrient recycling increase the diversity of the built environment above and below ground The debate around nutrient recycling in Finland often focuses heavily on the countryside and agricultural recycled fertilizers. However, the nutrients recycled in the growing media also end up back in the built environment. As more and more natural meadows or green roofs are added to cities, biodiversity will also increase.

Futuristic fungiculture in the Netherlands

Every year Kekkilä-BVB produces 430 000 m3 of casing soil for the mushroom industry, 175 000 m3 of that goes directly to the Dutch market which grows 300 000 tons of mushrooms every year. Producing this many mushrooms in such a relatively compact geographical space has led to some interesting innovations within the Dutch mushroom growing community.
